OVERVIEW:: Goal is to return to fulltime news photography in New Zealand after spending many years overseas in media related areas. I have a driving passion to capture the world around me to reflect our lives and highlight our endearours.

People: Great inter person skills, can deal with people from all walks of life effectively, with professionalism and obtain striking images from challeging situations.

Willingness to Learn: Just completed a diploma overseas relating to tourism, event planning and new media. Regular speaker or atendant at photographic conferences around the world. Last conference was May/June in Madrid and Portugal with the International Panoramas conference as speaker, orginiser and attendant.

Comunication Skills: A clear communcator, good listener and observer of human behavoiur with a focus on problem solving, even before a problem may occur

Dependability: Relible and hard worker, focuses on giving 110% whereever possible

Team Player: Enjoys working within and helping develop a keen working enviroment and culture. Still keen to push the limits but mellowed enough to respect others views and work together for the common good.

Photographic Equipment: Own and operate both Canon and Nikon digital systems. Able to make the most of minimal equipment to capture images without making waves. Full knowledeg on the maintance, upkeep and protection of digital assets.

Computer skills:Have been involved with computers since the days before windows, highly skilled with the Adobe Creative Suite, espically Photoshop and Lightroom.

Good understanding of HTML and web development tools. Have a keen interest in video and some post production work. Have worked has a photographer and web developer since 1998, on of the first in Marlborough.

Storytelling/research skills: Keenly research and analysis the current situations. Media has been my passion for many years. Like to keep an eye on world events, how they effect the local situation and look for fresh angles to illustrate a good story.

EDUCATION::

Diploma in Tourism Services, Levi Instutti, Lapland Finland 2009-2011

This was a 4 year course taught mainly in finnish. I managed to complete this in just over 2 years along with being a treacher aid with the IT and Event Planning sessions

6th form cert – Marlborough Boys College 1975 – 1979

KEY PROJECTS AND HIGHLIGHTS:

Offical photographer for the Levi Ski Resort, Levi Events and Levi Travel, all based 150km above the arctic circle in Lapland Finland.

Personal Profile

Born in Nelson, educated in Nelson and Marlborough. Eldest of three boys, all have travelled but over time returned to Marlborough.

Widely travelled and open to new ideas and ways. Enjoy being back in Marlborough with wife Sirpa Alalaakkola, World reknown artist, Zack ( 13yr) whose passions are computer graphics and music that starts college in 2012, Zara ( 11yr) our social butterfly, budding artist and also keen on music.

The family highlights were having spent a few years travelling over 140000km around europe in a campervan seeing, living and capturing the history around us.

All happy to have seen the world, experenced so many cultures and now settled back in Marlborough.
